Anaesthesiology

All patients who require general anaesthesia are thoroughly examined. The pre-anaesthetic examinations include ultrasound examinations, blood and urine tests which provide additional informations which can help us to tailor the anaesthesia protocol to the patient and reduce the risks to the minimum. Apart from the thorough planning we emphasize the importance of the monitoring during and after the procedure: our anaesthesiologist veterinarian colleague ensures the sayfety of the general anaesthesia. Our modern anaesthesia monitors provide great help with this task. In order to achieve even higher safety standards of the general anaesthesia all of our patients receive an i.v. catheter through which we provide i.v. fluid therapy and after placing an endotracheal tube we maintain the anaesthesia with oxygen and gas anaesthetic. When we plan complex interventions or the anaethesia of high risk patients (e.g.: with pre-existing comorbidities) we have the opportunity to consult with board-certified specialists in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.
Appropriate analgesia is essential not only during surgical procedures, but also during the the subsequent rehabilitation period; our colleagues create a tailored pain management plan in each case.
